TAXILA: A solar power plant having a generation capacity of 5.04MW was inaugurated at the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), Sanjwal, on Tuesday.

Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain inaugurated the plant.

Talking to journalists, the minister appreciated the POF’s efforts towards self-sufficiency in the power sector and termed it a great achievement.

He said that other defence production organisations should follow in the footsteps of the Sanjwal POF as the solar power was a cheap source of energy and it would not only reduce the cost of production, but would also ensure uninterrupted production process.

The minister said that solar power was not only environment friendly but it also reduced the load on the national grid.

POF chief Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat claimed that it was the largest solar plant in any industrial unit in the country.

ATTOCK: Rana Tanveer Hussain Federal Minister for Defense Production Tuesday inaugurated Solar Power Plant set up at POF Sanjwal.

With generation capacity of 5.04 MW it is the largest solar plant in any industrial unit in the country.

The power generated by the plant will be utilized in the Factory which will fulfill 50 percent requirement of POF.

The surplus power generation will be injected in the national grid on basis of Net-Metering after working hours of the Factory.

Talking to media, the Minister remarked that POF?s efforts towards self-sufficiency in power sector by setting up the Solar Power Plant at Sanjwal was appreciable and a big achievement.

He expressed the hope that other defense production organizations would follow the footsteps of POF as solar power is a cheap source of energy and will not only help in reduce cost of production but also give uninterrupted power.

Moreover, it will reduce load on the national grid besides being environment friendly.

The Solar Power Plant has been designed, installed & commissioned by M/s. HBKCS Hong Kong and completed two months ahead of scheduled time.

Its generation capacity is 5.04 MW & it is the largest captive solar plant in any industrial unit in Pakistan.


The power generated by this plant will be utilized for POF Sanjwal Factory which will cater for as much as 50% requirement of POF Sanjwal during working hours of the factory.

The surplus power generation will be injected in the national grid on basis of Net-Metering after working hours of POF Sanjwal & on holidays while talking to media personnel, Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain remarked that POF’s efforts towards self sufficiency in power sector by setting up-solar Power Plant at POF Sanjwal are appreciable and termed it a great achievement.


He further mentioned, that other defence production organizations should follow the foot steps of POF as the solar is the cheap source of energy and it will not only help reduce the cost of products but also keep the production process un-interrupted. Moreover, it will also reduce the load on national grid and is environment friendly source of power generation.


This Solar Power Plant has been designed, installed & commissioned by M/s. HBKCS Hong Kong & completed two months prior to the scheduled time.


Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat, HI(M) Chairman POF Board, Lt Gen (R) Syed Muhammad Awais Secy MoDP & senior officers of Pakistan Ordnance Factories were also present on this occasion.

The generation capacity of the solar power plant is 5.04MW and it is the largest captive solar plant in any industrial unit in Pakistan.
